One of the greatest measures of success is seeing training put into action when it matters most.
Jada Coaxum, a participant in the Tiffany Grant Foundation's youth program, completed CPR, First Aid, and AED training under the instruction of Dr. Aqkwele N. Polidore-Sanders. Shortly thereafter, while riding in a vehicle with her family, Jada's younger brother suddenly began choking in the back seat.
Without hesitation, Jada climbed into the back seat and immediately performed the Heimlich maneuver exactly as she had been taught during training. Her calm response, confidence, and quick thinking successfully dislodged the obstruction, saving her brother's life.
Following the incident, Jada's family shared that the training had truly served its purpose and expressed heartfelt gratitude for the lifesaving knowledge and confidence Jada gained through Dr. Polidore-Sanders' instruction.
Every class has the potential to save a life. Every student has the potential to become someone's hero. This is why we teach.
"When my son, Elijah Miller, a student at The High School for Health Professions in Orangeburg, needed CPR, AED, and First Aid certification for employment with the YMCA, Dr. Aqkwele N. Polidore-Sanders answered the call.
She provided comprehensive training in adult, child, and infant CPR, AED use, choking response, and First Aid. What impressed me most was her ability to combine expert instruction with hands-on learning. She took the time to explain each skill thoroughly, answer every question, provide educational resources, and ensure Elijah understood both the knowledge and the practical application.
To reinforce his learning, Dr. Polidore-Sanders even allowed Elijah to take home the training manikins and AED trainer so he could continue practicing and building confidence outside the classroom. She did far more than prepare him to pass a certification course—she prepared him to save a life.
As both a father and Executive Director of The Samaritan House of Orangeburg County, I sincerely appreciate Dr. Polidore-Sanders' professionalism, patience, and unwavering commitment to preparing young people with life-saving skills. Her passion for teaching and serving the community is evident in every aspect of her work, and I highly recommend her training programs to individuals and organizations seeking high-quality emergency preparedness education."
